University of Ballarat

History, diversity and educational excellence

The University of Ballarat (UB) is one of Australia's most progressive universities, with a history of providing tertiary education and training reaching back 135 years.

Founded in 1870 as the Ballarat School of Mines, more than 22,000 students are now enrolled at UB. *
The university places great emphasis on the quality of its teaching and learning, and its expanding, highly productive research capability. It utilises the latest technologies to support students and staff.
UB graduates consistently record amongst the highest national levels of satisfaction with their educational experience.

UB has established strong links with business, industry and local communities. The university’s dedication to further develop research that is relevant to the region has been rewarded with a significant increase in research funding.

In all activities, UB is harnessing new technologies so that access to its educational programs in the region, and for students further afield, is increased through flexible delivery and on-line learning.

IBM Global Services is located within the University's Technology Park. Other organizations such as Rural Ambulance Victoria and the government’s State Revenue Office also utilise the university’s facilities.

Located 90 minutes drive from Melbourne, UB is one of 38 Australian Government-funded and accredited universities.
